November-December 2025

Class Note 1966. Minnesota Gov. Tim Waltz was on hand last November in Minneapolis to celebrate the launch of Jim Lenfesty’s 14th book and eighth collection of poetry, Time Remaining: Body Odes, Praise Songs, Oddities, Amazements (www.coyotepoet.com). Jim and wife Susan have lots more to celebrate each year with four children and 10 grandkids.
A University of California Santa Barbara research professor in the department of history, Nelson Lichtenstein continues to pursue two passions. The first is hiking with friends and family in the Sierras and French Alps; the second is writing. Nelson’s latest book (he’s penned 20-plus), Labor’s Partisans: Essential Writings on the Union Movement from the 1950s to Today, was published in February. Why Unions Matter will appear in 2026.
“Considering what is occurring in the world today, you might particularly respond to my dystopian satire, Mediaevil,” suggests author Jeff Stein (www.jeffryjohnstein.com). Or read Jeff’s latest, just-published magical realism love story, Holdouts of the Snowdragon Bar.
Ed Larner has been on the housing board in Concord, Massachusetts, for the past 12 years, finding ways to address the housing shortage crisis. He’s also working with the College to strengthen the endowment he helped create that supports undergraduate military veterans at Dartmouth.
“Germaine and I dedicate much of our time and energy to spoiling our eight grandchildren,” reports Tom Louis, professor emeritus in biostatistics at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, from St. Michaels, Maryland. “I’m very concerned about the future,” Tom goes on, “not mine but our grandchildren’s, and we all need to do our part to protect the natural and social environments.”
Commercial real estate veteran Chris Kinum checked in from Harwich, Massachusetts: “We [Chris and Mary] have eight grandchildren—all female! They are all doing very well, having inherited my wife’s good looks and intelligence.”
Our sympathies to the families and friends of classmates who have sadly recently passed: Robert Bertocchi, Jim Edson,Bill Rose, and Jan Westervelt. More on each at dartmouth.66.org or the online Dartmouth Alumni Magazine.
Circle June 15-18 on your 2026 calendar—the dates of our don’t-want-to-miss 60th (no typo) reunion.
