Class Note 1962. A whooping “wah-hoo-wah” for Kathy Schwartz, Mike Schwartz’s better half, for creating a stunning book memorializing our 85th birthday bash in San Antonio, Texas, last April. Those of us who attended will treasure the memories.
After sustaining serious injuries in a wicked fall, Dick Harris checks in with good news: “I am almost back to where I was before the fall. I so appreciate all the support I’ve had.”
Alan Rapoport shared a link to an upbeat article about his brother-in-law, our late, great commish, Mike Slive (http://bit.ly/3JAMAdl).
Following successful triple-bypass surgery (“everything’s fine”), Steve Geller is back in the saddle blogging on Substack with weekly essays about “pretty much everything.” (https://substack.com/@stephendgeller?).
Former Charlestonian [South Carolina] Kent Hutchinson, residing in Williamsburg, Virginia, since 2003, bikes to James River and back two times a week and plays golf three times a week.
Our co-tripmeister, Rog Usborne, shared a fulsome account of an enviable retirement in Bonita, California, including volunteering on the USS Midway and with the USO, bimonthly bridge games, and travel to England, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Spain. Liz, an avid photographer, is also active in The Mayflower Society and several women’s groups, notably the Daughters of the American Revolution and Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. Wow!
Nick de Necochea, who suffered the devastating loss of his home and possessions in the L.A. fires, reports that he has relocated with his family to an apartment in nearby Glendale. Despite the debilitating financial setback, he remains active in the Latino community, the Dartmouth Club of Los Angeles, and the College’s Latino Alumni Association, where he served as president in 2015-17 and 2022. I checked on the GoFundMe account and was pleased to see that it has exceeded $18,000, thanks to generous contributions from his many Dartmouth friends and colleagues. I regret to inform you of the deaths of Robert “Bob” Nathanson of Medford, New York, on May 30; Barry S. Strauch, M.D.,of McLean, Virginia, on June 7; Preston B. Rowe of Tucker, Georgia, on June 20. Obituaries are at https://1962.dartmouth.org (navigate to “Classmates,” then “In Memoriam”).
