Class Note 1938

Issue

Sept - Oct 2011

September…the beginning of fall! The end of summer. I must share with you that on June 1 three tornadoes touched down in the Springfield, Massachusetts, area, marking a 40- to 50-mile path through Springfield, Wilbraham, Sturbridge and Monson. As you might have read, it devastated the small town of Monson. Thankfully, only three people were killed and a multitude of people lost what were their lives—homes, memories—and are starting a new life again. Please keep them in your prayers.

On June 7 I had the most wonderful telephone conversation with Adrian Weiss. Adrian had tried to reach me over several days; however, due to the storm, I was without power. But we finally did get together. He has lived in Miami, Florida, with his dear wife, Natalie, for the past 31 years. “I’ve been out of circulation—I spend a lot of time inside. I developed macular degeneration [a chronic condition that causes central vision loss], but I have a machine that enables me to read.” Adrian, like all of us, remembers those days spent at Dartmouth, including, but not limited to, those reunions he was able to attend. The 75th is coming! He asked how many classmates remain in the class of 1938. I’m proud (but saddened) to report that 49 remain. He said: “We were the largest class to graduate—but that was back in ’38.” I have received a list of these classmates and I will be sending it out with addresses, etc. You may receive the information before you receive this magazine. I truly enjoyed hearing his voice and he sounded just wonderful! Thank you so much to Adrian and Nat.

Nothing new to report—this is sometimes a good thing, if you know what I mean! So, stay healthy and relive those memorable fall days in Hanover.
