Charles Manning Kaufman ’60

Charles Manning Kaufman ’60 died of a heart-related medical issue on January 13 in Boynton Beach, Florida. Born in Brooklyn, he attended Poly Prep Country Day School where he is remembered as “one of the best athletes in New York City, earning school scoring records and claiming All-City titles in football, basketball and baseball.” He also served as a member of the school’s board of directors from 1975 to 1998. At Dartmouth Chuck played four years on the basketball and baseball teams. He was selected as an All-Ivy League basketball player and team captain in his senior year. He was a member of Pi Lambda Phi and Sphinx. Through the years he was active as president of the Dartmouth Club Officers Association and the Dartmouth Club of Long Island, an alumni councilor, a chairman of continuing education for the Long Island club for 20 years, an alumni interviewer for 40 years, and a member of the Wearers of the Green. Chuck spent most of his career as an executive of a family dairy business based in Queens, New York, supplying delis and retailers throughout the state. In later years he worked with his son, David, installing corporate telephone systems. Chuck is survived by Diane, his wife of nearly 60 years, three children (including Lynn ’90), and six grandchildren.
