When Chatterjee won The American Lawyer’s 2025 Attorney of the Year award, his first thought was that this recognition of the legal activism group he started, Law Firm Partners United (LFPU), would help people feel they could speak up for what’s important. Following President Trump’s attempts to bypass the legislative branch through executive orders, Chatterjee founded the nonpartisan LinkedIn association of nearly 1,000 partners from 200 of the largest law firms in the country. Much of LFPU’s activism involves filing friend-of-the-court briefs supporting law firms and lawyers targeted by the administration. “The rule of law and the Constitution expect nothing less,” says Chatterjee, now a partner at King & Spalding in Palo Alto, California, and coleader of its intellectual property team.

“I am very grateful for his energy and vision in imagining the group and getting it off the ground,” says LFPU board member Eric Savage, adding that when Chatterjee launched the group, he faced resistance from the firm where he was practicing at the time.

Chatterjee says the skills critical to LFPU’s success stem from his time as a radio DJ at DCR and Hanover’s WFRD, which helped him learn “how to communicate with people and build followings.”
