Peter Saccio, the College’s longtime Shakespeare authority, died in August. He was 83. The English professor joined the faculty in 1966 and quickly became a student favorite, with his classes often oversubscribed. Saccio, here lecturing on King Lear in 2005, also served as a pioneering advisor to early gay student organizations. “With his remarkable erudition, spirited wit, and deep sense of humanity, Peter made a lasting impact on our campus, the Upper Valley performing arts community, and far beyond,” said arts and sciences dean Elizabeth F. Smith.
