Beth Ames Altringer Eagle joined the College as its first distinguished professor of engineering design in mid-September. She also leads Thayer’s Design Initiative at Dartmouth (DIAD) program, launched in 2022 to foster tech and liberal arts collaborations to solve new problems. Eagle previously helped develop programs for Harvard University’s business and design schools, founded the M.A. in design engineering venture between Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design, and completed projects for companies such as IKEA and Uber.
Eagle cites Dartmouth’s liberal arts curriculum as a factor in her excitement to “build on DIAD’s momentum and explore how critical thinking through design methods can address our most pressing challenges—environmental, social, technical, and those affecting human well-being—both today and tomorrow.”
