Alphonse J. Squitierei ’58

Alphonse J. Squitierei ’58, M.D.,passed away on January 10, 2021. Al was born in the Bronx, New York, and lived most of his adult life in St. Louis, Missouri. At Dartmouth, the only college he applied to, he majored in philosophy and was president of Gamma Delta Chi. In 1962 Al completed medical school at St. Louis University, his father’s alma mater, and served as a U.S. Army physician in Germany for three years. He then established a successful medical practice in St. Louis and was chief of the medical staff at Incarnate World Hospital. He enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including woodturning, scuba diving, playing golf, and strength training. He won a weight training award in his early 80s. His seven children and 13 grandchildren, who survive him with wife Caren, loved the Sunday dinners he hosted and cooked at home. Al spoke fondly of his former roommate, Glower Jones ’58, saying they reconnected at their 50th class reunion and stayed in touch for many years.
