William R. Evans ’60

William R. Evans ’60, Ph.D., passed away on November 28, 2015. He grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey, graduating from Columbia High School. At Dartmouth he majored in English and was significantly involved in the Newman Club all four years. Following his graduation from Dartmouth he received his M.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia University. For 40 years he was a professor at Kean University in Union, New Jersey, teaching literature. A brilliant man and a highly engaging teacher with a distinct classroom flair, his academic specialties included William Shakespeare, Robert Frost and William Blake. He edited a collection of letters by Robert Frost in Robert Frost and Sidney Cox: Forty Years of Friendship. In addition to being an inspiring teacher, he was a generous human being. He is survived by husband Robert, brother of R. Daniel and his husband, James. He was predeceased by parents William and Mary. Donations in his memory may be made to Columbia University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
