Stephen Frank Mandel ’52

Stephen Frank Mandel ’52, of Darien, Connecticut, passed way from pneumonia on September 11, 2009. Born in New York on April 27, 1931, he was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, Dartmouth and the Stanford Graduate School of Business. At Dartmouth he majored in history and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon. He is survived by his wife, Ann, sons Stephen Jr. ’78 and Edward ’81 and their wives and five grandchildren. In his professional career he was president of Allstate Welding Products in Elmsford, New York, and International Welding Products in Greenwich, Connecticut. As a longtime community leader he was devoted to the Darien Library, where he was board president and an honorary trustee, Explorer Post 53 Emergency Medical Service, Gallivant, and the Darien Community Fund (United Way), which he served as president. His service to Dartmouth and his class was unsurpassed and his commitment was legendary.
