Dean Frederick Hofe ’56

Dean Frederick Hofe ’56 died on February 11. He was born in West Orange, New Jersey, graduated from nearby Carteret School and then Dartmouth before attending Yale, from which he obtained a master’s in city planning from the school of architecture. Upon graduation he accepted a position with Philip Johnson in N.Y.C. He eventually opened his own offices in Morristown, New Jersey, where he practiced commercial and residential architecture. Dean was an active member in American Institute of Architects, the Morristown Club, the Yale Club of N.Y.C. and St. Bernard’s Church, where he served on the vestry. He took great pleasure in his summer home on Block Island, Rhode Island, purchased nearly 50 years ago. He belonged to the Block Island Club and spent some time on its board. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jane; son Chisholm and his wife, Sara; daughter Caroline and her husband, Ross; daughter Catherine and her husband, Robert; daughter Charlotte and her husband, Adam; and grandchildren Hannah, Sam, Elizabeth, Bonnie, Sydney, Sara, Lillybelle, Annaserra and Adelaide.
