David Walter Shipper ’92

David Walter Shipper ’92 died unexpectedly on March 15, 2015, at his home in Koror, Palau. David attended Coffee High School in Florence, Alabama, as well as the University of Virginia before coming to Dartmouth. At the College he majored in English. He was a member of the rugby club, Alpha Delta and Sphinx. After graduation he obtained a law degree from the University of Alabama and clerked for the Hon. E.B. Haltom, U.S. District Court judge. After his clerkship David accepted a position as legal counsel to the supreme court of Palau, where he worked for two years. He then returned to the United States and worked as an assistant city attorney for San Francisco. Several years later David returned to Palau, where he held the position of assistant attorney general to the president. At the time of his death David was serving as senior legal counsel to the president of Palau, working with international clients on immigration, human rights and international business issues. David was kind and generous to the many diverse people whose lives he touched. He is survived by parents Jane and Stanley ’51, brother Michael ’87, sister-in-law Meredith and many close relatives. He was predeceased by his uncle, Edward ’48. He leaves behind devoted friends and loved ones who will never forget him.
