William Robert Guggisberg ’52

William Robert Guggisberg ’52 died on December 14, 2022. He was born January 28, 1930, in Bellerose, Queens, New York. Bill graduated from Hempstead High School and entered Dartmouth. His college experience was interrupted in his junior year by service in the U.S. Army, where he was honor grad of Army Officer Candidate School Class 13. After training, he was deployed to Korea as a lieutenant in charge of a platoon assigned to support a British Commonwealth Division. The queen of England named him an honorary member of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of his service. He returned to Dartmouth, graduating in 1955. He then joined North American Philips Co. as a financial analyst. In 1952 he married Norma Strohm and together they raised their family of five children, first in Rockville Centre, New York, and then in Chappaqua, New York. In 1975 he invested in real estate and continued to manage his properties until his death with son Robert. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Rockville Centre and Chappaqua, where he served as a deacon and ran the junior high program for many years. He was also a volunteer on the Chappaqua Ambulance Corps and served as an EMT for more than 10 years. Besides his wife of 70 years, he leaves children Marilyn, William, Karen, Robert, and Richard and their families, including 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
