William Ford Clapp ’52

William Ford Clapp ’52 passed away at home in Ontario, Canada, on January 8. Bill was born in Columbus, Ohio, on October 30, 1930, and attended nearby Upper Arlington High School. He spent two years at Dartmouth and completed his undergraduate degree in business at Ohio State University. In 1952 Bill joined the U.S. Navy as a commissioned officer in the Supply Corps, serving mostly in Japan. Bill’s passion for learning and teaching led him to universities in Berkeley, California, and Boulder, Colorado, where he studied psychology, and then to Reno, Nevada, where he taught psychology at the University of Nevada. In 1970, with three children and wife Judy, Bill moved his family to Toronto, Canada. There, he served as chief psychologist at Thistletown Regional Centre, working with children, and later at the Muskoka Centre in Gravenhurst. Bill was active in sports, including swimming, football, golf, sailing, rollerblading, and tennis, which he loved and played into his 80s. Bill also loved to travel and did so extensively with his second wife, Nancy. Bill followed Nancy where she worked as a traveling nurse in Florida, Hawaii, and the Virgin Islands. Together they saw Russia, China, Greece, and Croatia. Bill is survived by Nancy; children Susan, Alicia, and Ford and their spouses; and six grandchildren. Bill’s father, Milo Clapp, was a member of the class of 1925.
