William Edwards Buckingham Jr. ’47

William Edwards Buckingham Jr. ’47 died in Bellevue, Washington, on January 27, 2011. He grew up in Cheshire, Connecticut, attended Hamden (Connecticut) High School and was one of the few civilian freshmen in the summer of 1943. In college he played intramural hockey, joined Kappa Kappa Kappa and was active in the Outing Club. His studies were interrupted by two years of service in the Air Force. He returned to graduate from Thayer School in 1949. He worked for Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut before moving to Washington. His major projects involved engines for the B-52, F-111, 747 and the Caravelle. His hobbies were golf, tennis and auto restoration. He is survived by his wife and five children.
