William Brown Rockwood ’81

William Brown Rockwood ’81 died of liver cancer on August 4 surrounded by family at home in Mindoro, Wisconsin. He was born on April 26, 1959, to George and Kathy Rockwood. While a student at Dartmouth, he was treated for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and regarded every day beyond that as a bonus. A classmate reported, “He played beer pong badly with only one eye but with great enthusiasm. He was an avid skydiver for years, even after a couple of primary chute failures and once getting hung up on a telephone pole. He was truly one-of-a-kind.” He married Judith A. Bowes in 1983 and lived in Wisconsin, where he was active in the community, participating in Boy Scouts, snowmobiling, and shooting sports. Bill was recently retired from an engineering career at Trane Co., where he was awarded 12 patents. He built his own retirement home in Wisconsin on 80 acres that included trails for their horses and a shooting range. He loved horseback riding, traveling, scuba diving, and spending time with his children and two grandchildren. A classmate who saw him before his death said Bill’s positive attitude never wavered and that he gratefully described his life as “epic.” He is survived by Judy; sons Kevin, David, and Steven; and grandchildren June and Dominic. He was predeceased by his mother, Kathy Lyne.
