Wilfred J. Daily Jr.’57 passed away from cancer in Tampa on July 20. Bill graduated from Deerfield Academy and Dartmouth, where he majored in history, was premed, enjoyed crew, and was a member of Delta Upsilon. Bill proceeded to New York Medical College, graduated in 1961, and took an internship at Mound Park Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he met his future wife, nurse Yvonne. He served his residency at Denver Children’s Hospital. He served in the Navy, achieving the rank of lieutenant commander. In 1966 Bill moved to Tampa, joining two other doctors to found Tampa Bay Pediatrics. During his 40-year pediatric practice, he loved following each child’s life from birth through college, taking an interest in their education, sports, and talents. A longstanding member of the Hillsborough Medical Association and a founding member of the Hillsborough Pediatric Society, he was called “the best pediatrician in Tampa.” Bill enjoyed tennis, sailing, golf, whitewater rafting, and skiing. He cherished his second home in Highlands, North Carolina. Bill demonstrated his faith as minister of Grace Lutheran Church in Tampa and as a member of Holy Family Lutheran Church in Highlands. Bill and Yvonne’s 57-year marriage can be attributed to one of his favorite sayings, “Never forget your sense of humor.” He is survived by Yvonne, three daughters, sons-in-law, and nine grandchildren.
