Wilbur W. “Bill” Bullen Jr. ’54

Wilbur W. “Bill” Bullen Jr. ’54 passed away on March 14 in Danvers, Massachusetts. Bill came to Dartmouth from Waban, Massachusetts, and Kimball Union Academy, where he participated in numerous student activities as well as starring in football, basketball, and tennis, which he captained for two years with national ranking. In his three years at Kimball Union Academy, he never lost a singles match. At Dartmouth Bill continued his love for tennis as a member of the varsity team but left after two years to join the U.S. Air Force. He returned to Dartmouth in 1956, graduating in 1958. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi. Bill spent his entire career in the life insurance business as a nationally recognized expert in coverage for individuals with high-risk health histories. His other passions were riding his motorcycles, scuba diving, flying his airplane, and spending time at his summer home in Madison, New Hampshire. He particularly enjoyed his fishing trips to the College Grant with his sons. Bill was active in church and community projects. He was also a three-term trustee of Kimball Union Academy and headed up its 50th reunion record-breaking fundraising campaign. In addition to his wife, Elinor, he is survived by former wife Jean Grant; sister Ann; sons Wilbur (and wife Kathy), Douglas (and wife Shari), and David; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings Jed and Emily.
