Walter “Huck” J. Keany ’52

Walter “Huck” J. Keany ’52, a resident of Wenham, Massachusetts, passed away on October 18, 2020. Walter was born on August 26, 1929, in Dedham, Massachusetts, and graduated from Dedham High School in 1947. He played basketball and was baseball captain at Dedham High and attended Rivers Country Day School in Weston, Massachusetts, for a year before coming to college. He entered Dartmouth with the class of 1952 but transferred to and graduated from the University of New Hampshire (UNH). He was inducted into the UNH Athletics Hall of Fame and received the school’s Alumni Meritorious Service Award for serving as class president for 50 years. Huck was commissioned through the U.S. Army ROTC and served his country during the Korean conflict at the rank of first lieutenant. He worked in purchasing for General Electric in Lynn, Massachusetts, and Raytheon in Andover, Massachusetts. For many years he hand-crafted hundreds of beautiful stained glass works of art for customers, friends, and family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janice, whom he met at UNH; son Brant; and two grandchildren. Daughter Kimberly predeceased him in 2010.
