Steven Mark Schreiber ’82

Steven Mark Schreiber ’82, M.D., of Pompton Plains, New Jersey, passed away on December 23, 2022, after a six-year battle with chronic illness. Steve was born and grew up in New Jersey. He graduated from Wayne Hills High School as class valedictorian. At Dartmouth Steve took premed classes and studied French as part of the language study abroad program. He graduated with a degree in biochemistry. Steve attended the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1986. He completed his internal medicine residency at Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Steve began his 30-year medical career in Wayne (New Jersey) General Hospital’s emergency room. He met his future wife, Maureen, at a hospital Christmas party in 1989. He later transferred to Pascack Valley Hospital in New Jersey and eventually joined the emergency room physicians at Chilton Hospital, where he was born. One of Steve’s ER colleagues noted: “Steve was an exceptional physician, family man, a good friend taken from us much too soon.” Dartmouth classmate Carol Davis recalled about Steve: “He was a super nice, funny guy, not unlike John Travolta on Welcome Back Kotter. A sweet, sweet, goofy guy, he will be missed.” Steve is survived by Maureen; daughters Sarah, Olivia, Emily, and Abigail; and older brother Robert ’79 and his family. Donations can be made in Steve’s memory to the American Diabetes Association.
