Stephen Ryder Parkhurst ’52

Stephen Ryder Parkhurst ’52 passed away on January 16 in Peabody, Massachusetts. Born on September 15, 1930, in Winchester, Massachusetts, Steve lived most of his life in Winchester and graduated from Winchester High School and Dartmouth with a degree in English literature. He was a member of Sphinx and Phi Kappa Psi and was an active alumnus, serving as class treasurer for many years. He obtained an M.B.A. from Babson College in 1957. He had a 49-year career in banking, working in leadership positions first for the First National Bank of Boston, then the Merchants National Bank of Boston, the Barnstable County National Bank of Hyannis, and the Gloucester Bank & Trust Co., retiring in 2001 as executive vice president. He is survived by his second wife, Cecily, to whom he was married for 30 years; children John, Laura, Sara, David, and Susan; stepchildren Trevor and Mary; four grandsons; and two stepgrandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lorraine, in 1992. Steve was active in the community, serving in the town government of Winchester for 50 years. He had many Dartmouth relatives, including his father, Richard, class of 1916; great-uncle Lewis, class of 1878 (a trustee), and cousin Wilder, class of 1907. Parkhurst Hall is named for his family.
