Ronald Jay Lehrman ’54

Ronald Jay Lehrman ’54, passed away on February 9. He came to Dartmouth from Miami Beach (Florida) Senior High School, where he was a basketball star. At Dartmouth Ron was an English honors major, a member of Sigma Chi, a writer for The Dartmouth, and a member of the basketball team. He graduated cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to Harvard Law School, received his J.D. in 1957, and went into the field of trademark and copyright protection. In 1969, he cofounded the law firm now known as Fross Zelnick Lehrman & Zissu, where he enjoyed a storied legal career in international trademark and copyright law. His intellectual and moral elegance, good sense, and endless decency earned him great respect in his field. His reach was global as he formed close and lasting friendships with lawyers and colleagues on every continent and throughout the world as a frequent speaker on international trademark protection. Ron was clearly recognized as one of the leading international trademark lawyers of his time. Ron was also known as being generous, gregarious, and always welcoming. He loved to entertain and host events, whether work events or dinner parties at home. He always had a youthful sense of humor and was an engaging storyteller. He was predeceased by his first wife, Pat, and his second wife, Carole. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Barbara, stepdaughter Lauren, nephew David, and special friend Sue Morris.
