Robert Holbrook Griswold ’52

Robert Holbrook Griswold ’52 passed away peacefully on August 28 at the House of John in Clifton Springs, New York, of cancer. Bob was born on May 29, 1930, in Clifton Springs. He graduated from Clifton Central School and from Dartmouth, where he majored in economics and was a member of Sigma Chi. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1954 with the rank of captain. He had a long and illustrious career at the Ontario­ Trumansburg Telephone Cos., where he served as president, CEO, and chairman of the board. He was a member of the New York State Telecommunications Association and a board member of the Deposit Telephone Co. and was elected to the New York State Telecommunications Hall of Fame. Bob was a lifelong resident of the Finger Lakes area of New York and he was very active in the community, serving as a member and officer of many local service, religious, and educational organizations. Bob was also an avid and skilled player of golf, in College and throughout his adult life. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joan; children Jan and Michael and stepdaughter Stephanie Hurlbut Acquilano ’88 and their spouses; seven grandchildren; and siblings John and Susan. His son, Stephen, predeceased him in 2011.
