Robert Ernest Adams ’52

Robert Ernest Adams ’52 passed away in Old Lyme, Connecticut, on November 6, 2017. He was born July 15, 1930; grew up in Longmeadow, Massachusetts; and graduated from Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts, in 1948 and Dartmouth in 1952. At Dartmouth Bob was an English major and a member of the Literary Club, the Freshman Glee Club and the freshman golf team. Following college he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the 3rd Armored Division. After two years of military service he was employed for 29 years by Connecticut General Life Insurance Co. (now Cigna) both in the home office and in San Francisco; the last position as sales and marketing vice president for the reinsurance division. For 11 years prior to retirement he was president and CEO of Frankona America Life Reassurance Co. in Kansas City, Missouri. He was active in the American Council of Life Insurance trade association, chairing the reinsurance committee for three years. He retired to Old Lyme in 1994. He was a member of the Old Lyme Country Club and was active in tennis and golf. He served on the board and in other operational capacities for 10 years. He leaves his spouse of 62 years, Shirley; son Robert Jr. and his wife, Beth; daughter Kathleen and her husband, John; and granddaughter Katie.
