Robert Clayton Rainie ’41

Robert Clayton Rainie ’41, M.D., died on October 8, 2012. He received his medical training at Dartmouth (1942) and Boston University (1943). At Dartmouth Bob was a member of the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra, Marching Band and Barbary Coast. He was also a member of Green Key, Green Collegians and Bones Gate/Delta Tau Delta. He served the College as class agent (1990-91) and as DMS class secretary (2008). Bob served in the U.S. Army in World War II and in the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1955. He married Dora Merino in 1944 and they celebrated 68 years of marriage in 2012. Bob practiced internal medicine privately in Concord, New Hampshire, his entire career, serving as a fellow of the American College of Physicians, president of the N.H. Medical Society and N.H. Heart Association and a medical staff member of Concord Hospital. After retirement from active practice in 1986, he continued work with the State of New Hampshire for seven more years. Bob was also an active member of the Concord community, serving as trustee of the Capital Center of the Arts and was a charter member of the Concord Chorale and several other musical organizations. He is survived by his wife, Dode; son Scott and his wife, Cindy, daughter Robin and her husband, Kenzie; daughter Jiffi; grandchild Jeb; three step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
