Robert “Bob” W. Butler Jr. ’81

Robert “Bob” W. Butler Jr. ’81 passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 15 in Naugatuck, Connecticut. He was born in Yonkers, New York, on February 17, 1959, to Robert and Marisa (Benvenuto) Butler. He graduated from Mahopac (New York) High School, where he participated in varsity soccer, varsity track and field, and was elected president of the student council. An Eagle Scout, he enjoyed playing the clarinet and saxophone in the marching band and singing in the chorus. Bob loved his time at Dartmouth, where he earned his degree in economics and engineering. He participated in the Marching Band and Glee Club, served as head tour guide, and was a member of Delta Psi Delta. After graduating in 1981 Bob joined his father and worked as a manager at General DataComm for almost 23 years. While there he studied at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, earning his M.B.A. in marketing in 1996. Bob volunteered in leadership roles in his community and made friends everywhere he went. He made annual trips back to Hanover to attend Homecoming games with fraternity brothers and other friends. He loved to travel and a favorite trip was visiting several Butler and Ormond castles in Ireland. Bob is survived by his mother, sister Anita, and her husband, John.
