Richard Nash Wilcox ’52

Richard Nash Wilcox ’52, M.D., passed away at home on October 22, 2021, in Middletown, Connecticut. Richard was born on October 31, 1930. He grew up in Pleasantville, New York, and graduated from Deerfield Academy in 1948 and from Dartmouth in 1952. He was a chemistry-zoology major and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Richard then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served four years as a jet pilot with the 65th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska. Upon completion of military duty, he studied at Columbia University and graduated from Albany Medical College in 1961. He specialized in general surgery, occupational medicine, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. He and his wife, Mary Stone, whom he married in late 1953, settled in Berlin, Connecticut, and he spent 15 years in private practice before joining Pratt & Whitney as medical director in Middletown. Richard enjoyed an active life and loved his family and many friends. He enjoyed skiing and sailing and was an avid reader of history, science, and politics. After retiring he restored his 265-year-old home, became a gifted woodworker, and continued his lifelong passion for gardening. He was predeceased by his third daughter, Martha, and first granddaughter, Erin. Richard leaves Mary; daughter Carolyn and her husband, Kevin; daughter Sarah; son John and his wife, Robin; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
