Richard C. Klein ’43
Richard C. Klein ’43 died October 18, 2012. Dick graduated from De La Salle High School in Plymouth, Minnesota, where he was class treasurer and a member of the Dramatics Club and football team. Dick earned a Dartmouth scholarship but his studies were interrupted by WW II. He served as a lieutenant in the Pacific theater. After the war Dick graduated from the University of Minnesota. He became a certified public accountant and an executive at Dayton’s department store. As one of three officers who launched Target Stores, he became a Target vice president. Dick held senior finance positions for various companies and organizations and in 2008 finished a 20-year stint as a senior auditor with Profit Recovery Group. For many years he was treasurer of the Minneapolis Figure Skating Club. Dick was an avid football fan and a great supporter of his sons’ sports. He and his wife, Bernie, went to Naples, Florida, yearly and also enjoyed traveling to other parts of the United States as well as to Europe. Ever an accountant, Dick cataloged his 24,000 bicycling miles, calling them his “local trip around the world.” He and Bernie were devoted symphony attendees and Dick was an avid reader, especially of history and science. Dick is survived by wife of 63 years, children Charles, Thomas, David and Suzan and four grandchildren. His son Steven predeceased him.
