Richard Alan Steinberg ’54

Richard Alan Steinberg ’54 passed way on March 3, 2014, in Stamford, Connecticut, after a short illness. Dick came to Dartmouth from New York City, where he attended DeWitt Clinton High School. At Dartmouth he was a brother of Tau Epsilon Phi. He graduated from the Tuck School of Business in 1955. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he joined the Macy’s Department Store executive training program. In 1962 he joined S&K Sales Co., a worldwide sales operation in the sales and marketing of brand-name consumer products to military post exchanges throughout the world. In 1970 Dick purchased S&K, and he was CEO and President until he sold the company in 1995. After the sale he remained active in the business and at the time of his death was S&K’s vice chairman and a director of the company. Dick was a former board president and chairman of the Armed Forces Marketing Council and in 1993 he received the American Logistical Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a former member of the USO and very active with the National Military Family Association. Dick is survived by his wife, Judith, and his children Jane ’86 and David ’88.
