William I. Park III ’65 passed away on June 30 in Mobile, Alabama, after a prolonged illness. He came to Dartmouth from Springfield, Missouri. A member of Beta Theta Pi, he played football all four years and was named a Rufus Choate scholar. Bill received his M.D. from Duke University in 1968 and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee. Bill then served at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, caring for injured military flown home from Vietnam. He spent his career at the Mobile Bone and Joint Center, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues, patients, and friends through his work ethic, surgical skill, bedside manner, and compassion. To many, he became a trusted friend and source of guidance during life’s most difficult moments. Following retirement, Bill continued to visit patients as a friend and an honorary steward of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church. Bill devoted himself to family and his greatest joy came from spending time with them, especially outdoors along the Alabama Gulf Coast. Bill is survived by his wife, Judith; sons Shawn, Scott, and Chris; and grandchildren Kessler, Mackenzie, Joshua, Ashley, and Alden.
