William H. Nickerson ’55

Issue

January-February 2026

William H. Nickerson ’55 passed away peacefully in Livermore Falls, Maine, on September 5, 2025. Born in Orange, New Jersey, on January 12, 1933, Bill graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire, in 1951 and went on to earn his A.B. in sociology at Dartmouth. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958, stationed in the States. As a young man Bill held various jobs—including a stint working on a banana boat—that shaped his curiosity about the world and a lifelong love of learning. The more conservative work of banking turned out to be his profession, and after a 12-year stint at Chemical Bank he joined the Livermore Falls Trust Co. He enjoyed classical music of all forms; dabbled in various hobbies, including photography and stamp collecting; and was an avid gardener. His favorite pastime was reading and his biggest passion was food: He loved to cook or consume a good meal and the joy of sharing food with family and friends. Bill’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He maintained an active membership in the Emmanuel Assembly of God in Livermore Falls for many years, cherishing the fellowship and friendships he found there. Bill is survived by his wife, three children, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
