William Cushing Hoyt ’68 died peacefully from complications of Parkinson’s disease on May 23 at his home in New London, New Hampshire. Bill attended Winchester (Massachusetts) High School, where he was active in the yearbook, glee club, gymnastics, and student government. A psychology major at Dartmouth, Bill was active in the DOC, including as a member of the directorate as a senior; the Society of Engineers; and Tri-Kap, where he served as treasurer. After college he joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a naval aviator. In the Vietnam War, Bill flew 60 combat missions piloting the A7 Corsair II aircraft from the carrier USS Midway. After the Navy, Bill earned an M.B.A. in 1977 from the Tuck School of Business. As vice president of IPC-Freudenberg, he led finance, mergers, and acquisitions; his role took him to Germany, France, Korea, Mexico, and Canada. In 1990 he and his wife, Lynne, bought and ran a manufacturing company and in later years owned and developed software and solar power companies. He retired in 2018. Bill and Lynne were married exactly one year after a Dartmouth-Colby-Sawyer blind date. Bill was active with the Elkins Fish and Game Club and a charter member of the New London Rotary Club for years. Bill is survived by Lynne; son William ’92 and his wife, Kate; son Matthew; daughter Anne ’95 and her husband, Mark; and seven grandchildren.
