Walter Patrick Gramm ’52, a resident of Lantana, Florida, passed away on March 22, 2025, five days after his 95th birthday. Pat was born on March 17, 1930, in Winnetka, Illinois, and prepared for college at Lake Forest (Illinois) Academy. At Dartmouth he earned a degree in engineering and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi. Following graduation, Pat served in the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps for three years and then joined Republic Steel while earning a master’s from Northwestern University. He then joined the family business, Great Lakes Carbon Corp., where he served in a variety of management assignments until retirement. Pat was an active alumnus, serving on both the Thayer School of Engineering and the Hood and Hopkins boards of overseers. His family endowed the Dorothy and Walter Gramm Professor of Engineering at the Thayer School in honor of his parents. Pat is survived by former wives Annmarie, Jennifer, and Marguerita as well as children Alexander, Christian, Melise ’88, and Walter.
