Tamara Lee Skye Chiarella ’79 of Boscawen, New Hampshire, died on February 20 after a long illness. Tami was born on March 27, 1957, in Cornwall, New York, and attended James I. O’Neill High School in nearby Highland Falls, where she was a member of the Spanish club and tennis and ski teams. At Dartmouth, Tami lived in 212 Wheeler freshman year, majored in Latin American studies, and was active in Phi Sigma Psi and the Spanish club. Tami earned a master’s in teaching from the University of New Hampshire in 1982 and a master’s in linguistics from Georgetown in 1988. Tami taught languages at the high school level for many years. She devoted her life to education and the students she cared for. Tami invested countless hours guiding, mentoring, and encouraging young minds, leaving a lasting impression on generations of students. Her classroom was not just a place of learning but also of compassion, patience, and belief in others. Tami was a gifted musician, playing piano, guitar, and many other instruments and performing at Peter Christian’s in New London, New Hampshire. Music was a language she spoke fluently, one that allowed her to express creativity, depth, and emotion. Tami was accepting of all and always ready to engage in thoughtful conversation. Classmates remember Tami’s kind, generous, adventurous and sweet spirit, and generous heart. Tami is survived by stepdaughters Samantha and Holly, brothers Michael ’76 and John, sister Taryn, and other close family.
