Stuart Jay Birdt ’83

Stuart Jay Birdt ’83 died unexpectedly of heart-related issues on November 16, 2025. Stuart was born in Queens, New York, and grew up on Long Island. He graduated from Dartmouth magna cum laude, served as business manager of college radio stations WDCR/WFRD, and participated in the DOC’s Winter Sports Club. In 1985 he entered Harvard Business School and graduated in 1987 as a Baker scholar. Stuart spent 25 years working for Goldman Sachs and other investment firms in investment banking and equity research. He spent the last 16 years of his career in private wealth management, most recently in Santa Barbara, California, where he made a name for himself as a knowledgeable, dependable, and trustworthy investor and wealth advisor. In 1996 in London Stuart met the woman who would become the love of his life, Ruth Mitchell. They were married in 2001 and were each other’s best friends and soulmates until she died of complications from cancer treatment in 2024. Stuart was an avid runner. He completed 15 marathons and nearly 50 half marathons, including the N.Y.C. marathon five times. Most importantly, he was a wonderful and warm friend who never lost the ability to see the humor in almost everything and is missed dearly. Stuart leaves his mother, Sondra; brother Andrew; and numerous close friends.
