Stephen C. Francis ’63 died on April 13. Steve was from Larkspur, California, and attended Tamalpais High School, where he was class president and captain of the ski team. At Dartmouth he majored in economics and was a brother and president of Sigma Nu and a member of the ski patrol. He was active as a Dartmouth Alumni Fund volunteer. Steve obtained an M.B.A. at Stanford University in 1965 and then joined Citbank in the fixed income department as a bond trader. In 1968 he joined Brown Brothers Harriman; in 1972, with three colleagues, he founded Fisher Francis Trees & Watts, an investment management company specializing in fixed income and foreign currency. The company was very successful, and Steve moved to London in 1989 to open an office serving international clients. He returned to New York in 1994, and the company was sold to Banque National de Paris in 1999. Steve retired in 2006 to Greenwich, Connecticut. He had served on the U.S. Treasury borrowing advisory committee and was its chairman for two years. Steve is survived by his second wife, Kathleen; and children Ian, Audrey ’95, James ’10, and Caroline ’13.
