Scott McKown ’57 —a longtime resident of Mill Valley, California—passed away on May 19. Scott graduated from Edina-Morningside (Minnesota) High School. He majored in psychology and belonged to Kappa Kappa Kappa (president) and the Interfraternity council. He served two years in the U.S. Army. Scott began work for Wirt Wilson & Co., a property casualty insurance agency, in Minneapolis for eight years then moved to Marin County, California. He joined Design Professionals Financial Corp., specializing in liability insurance for engineers, architects, and geologists. He was executive vice president and member of the board in 1981, when he went out on his own to consult for companies deciding to self-insure. Following his insurance career, Scott turned his attention to emerging technologies and community service. His strong belief in civic engagement led him to launch Marinfo, which eventually became the official website of Marin County. He supported the development of networking infrastructure connecting local governments and nonprofit organizations. Scott spent much of his free time hiking and biking the trails of Marin County. He was a member of the League of Women Voters, serving on its board and as treasurer. He supported Dartmouth Alumni Fund as a volunteer for eight years. Scott was predeceased by Karen, his wife of more than six decades. He is survived by sons Craig and Clark; sisters Susan, Lucy, and Lucky; and three grandchildren.
