Sander J. Robins ’58 , M.D., passed away on December 21, 2025. Sandy came to Dartmouth from Trenton (New Jersey) High School, majored in philosophy, and was a brother at Tau Epsilon Phi. He went to medical school at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and did his medical residency at Tufts and Boston University (BU). Sandy was a lieutenant commander in the National Public Health Service in Puerto Rico from 1965 to 1967 and then began a long career as a gastroenterologist and director of a lipid metabolism research laboratory at the Boston Veterans hospital. During his 30 years at the lab, he published more than 130 articles and a book, Disorders of Lipid Metabolism. He later returned to clinical work at BU’s metabolic center, consulted for Fournier Pharma on cholesterol management, and was lab director of the Framingham Heart Study until retiring at age 80. Sandy enjoyed musical performances and travel and his favorite pastime was sailing The Moveable Feast. He said, “A nice burgundy, swordfish on the stern grill, and a sunset over Vineyard Sound [Massachusetts] is about as good as it gets.” Sandy is survived by his wife, Bobbi, a son, daughter Valerie ’88, and five granddaughters, including Fiona Price ’23.
