Samuel Matthew Telerico ’88

Issue

May-June 2026

Samuel Matthew Telerico ’88 died January 15 after an accidental fall in his native Greenwich, Connecticut. At Greenwich High School, Sam was active in tennis, soccer, and theater and served as senior class president. At Dartmouth he majored in history, pledged Bones Gate, joined the Chamber Singers, and lettered in volleyball. He worked in New York City in advertising and film, then became a certified master trainer so he could share his passion for fitness with others. Dartmouth friends remember Sam’s extraordinary warmth, humor, and style. Dana Beard ’88 recalls Sam bringing “six beautiful, freshly pressed, button-down shirts, each in its protective plastic sleeve,” on a camping trip with zero modern conveniences. Catherine Rainey ’88 remembers Sam as “joyful, always up for fun, with an infectious giggle”—particularly while studying in Blois, France, with ’88s Kate Haffner, Elizabeth Miles, Jeff Albright, John Replogle, and Colin Stewart. It was Sam, Rainey writes, who first learned and shared that Stacey Coverdale ’88 had died from injuries sustained in a car wreck just hours after graduation—a still-raw memory for many classmates. “We cried with him,” says Rainey, “That was the magic of Sam. You could be whatever you needed to be with him and be sure of him. Happy, sad, unsure of oneself, one could be assured of his embrace.” Sam’s unexpected death stunned family and friends, who stressed at a memorial February 21 that he is sorely missed.
