Robert W. Woodhouse ’51, M.D., a psychiatrist and a lifelong mountain climber, died on February 23, 2017, in Deer Isle, Maine. Bob was a member of a group of ’51 classmates who spent their senior year and one additional year at the Dartmouth Medical School, then went on to Harvard to complete their M.D.s. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Kappa medical fraternity and was active in the Dartmouth Outing Club and Dartmouth Mountaineering Club. Following graduation from Harvard he served two years as a captain in the U.S. Air Force. Bob shared his love of mountain climbing with his wife, Barbara. They visited their children in Colorado almost every year, with climbing as the centerpiece of each trip, even into their 80s. Bob and Barbara were also hikers and cross-country skiers, activities they enjoyed together in and around their hometown of Blue Hill, Maine. Other interests included woodworking, baking and brewing. Bob’s father, John C. Woodhouse, was member of Dartmouth’s class of 1921.
