Robert Raymond Rauch Jr. ’79

Robert Raymond Rauch Jr. ’79 , M.D., died on June 13, 2025. Bob grew up in Lenox, Massachusetts, and went to Lenox High School, where he was class valedictorian. He was a member of the school newspaper and chess club and earned a sports letter as basketball team manager during the team’s state championship seasons. At Dartmouth freshman year Bob lived in Mass Hall and majored in English. Bob dove into his coursework, with his preferred tools a manual typewriter and gooseneck lamp. He focused on English 5 coursework, reworking essay drafts for days. His diligence in mastering Paradise Lost made a big impression. After Dartmouth Bob earned his medical degree at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, graduating as a doctor of psychiatry. He served with honors as a major in the U.S. Air Force for four years and was in operation Desert Storm. Bob then practiced as a psychiatrist in various states, settling in San Antonio, Texas. In 2017 he married Amira Naguib, whom he called his “princess.” On July 7, 2025, Bob was interred in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military burial honors, including a 21-gun salute. He leaves behind Amira.
