Robert Ratcliffe Jackson ’51 passed away on January 9. Rob was born in La Jolla, California, on January 24, 1930, and passed away in La Jolla in the home he built with his wife, Liz, fulfilling his wish to remain there during hospice. He is survived by children Jennifer, Tom, and Scott; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren. Rob prepared for college at Flintridge Preparatory School in California and graduated from Dartmouth with a sociology major. He was a member of Theta Delta Chi and a varsity swimming letterman. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as an officer. Rob commanded a rifle platoon with the 1st Marine Division in the Korean conflict. In early 1953 he was severely injured in combat and received stabilization in a MASH unit, then surgery aboard the USS Repose. For his heroic battlefield actions and protection of his outnumbered troops, Rob was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged as a captain. Returning home, he met Lizbeth Box. They married in 1954 and they were very happy together until she passed away in 2011. Rob founded Coldwell Banker’s La Jolla residential office and dedicated 42 years to serving his hometown and company as a regional manager and vice president. Rob was a member of La Jolla Country Club, founding president of the Scripps Hospital Foundation, and president of La Jolla Town Council and Kiwanis Club.
