Richard Saez ’58 , Ph.D., died on November 28, 2025. He was born in New York City and graduated from high school in Brooklyn. At Dartmouth he majored in philosophy and was a senior fellow, with awards from the Reynolds, Fulbright, and National Endowment for the Humanities fellowships. After graduation Richard spent an academic year on a fellowship at the University of Madrid, studying the history of the Spanish language and literature. He earned a doctorate at Yale in comparative literature in 1967 and went on to a long career as a professor at the City University of New York. Richard taught Renaissance European literature as well as modern and contemporary poetry (European and American). He was active with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, and YMCA. Richard is survived by his partner of 44 years, Eric, and by a brother, nieces, and extended family in the United States, Barcelona, and Madrid.
