Richard A. Miner ’51, a resident of Holliday, Utah, died on February 3. Music-making was Dick’s great joy throughout his life. He was a member of the Dartmouth Glee Club and part of a class of ’51 singing group that entertained classmates at every reunion. He attended the New England Conservatory of Music and sang for many years in a 15-person vocal jazz group as well as several church choirs. He toured France with a 50-voice chorus as part of a six-concert cultural exchange. He was widely admired for his wonderfully smooth bass voice. At Dartmouth Dick was a math major and a member of Delta Tau Delta. After graduating, he served for two years in the U.S. Army Finance Corps. He joined Remington/Univac, later renamed Honeywell, in the nascent computer industry. He spent more than 40 years at Honeywell as a project manager, receiving numerous engineering and data processing awards. Computer language was a special interest. Dick was a contributor to every community in which he lived. Besides serving as a treasurer and trustee of several churches, he sang in their choirs and fostered a music ministry that performed in nearby nursing homes. Dick’s first wife, Norma, died in 2010. He married Anita in 2011. His family had close Dartmouth ties: his father, Reginald B. Miner, was a member of the class of 1921. Two of his children also graduated from Dartmouth: Robert ’81 and Carol ’83.
