Issue

March-April 2022

Richard C. Bacon ’51 died on September 13, 2021, at his home in Palm Desert, California. Dick spent nearly 50 years in the graphic arts business as a senior sales executive, owner, and general manager. He started with Harris Corp., a Cleveland-headquartered printing machinery company, upon graduation from Dartmouth. In 1972, he and a partner started Graphics West, where he served as chief executive until the business was sold in 2000. Dick and his wife, Nancy, shared a strong interest in the arts; Dick’s creative bent was primarily in woodworking and ceramics. Sports—especially golf—were another great joy; he was an active bicycler and swimmer. He came to Dartmouth from Cleveland, one of seven graduates of the University School in his entering class. In college Dick was a member of Beta Theta Pi and of the football and baseball teams. He served for three years as a sergeant in the U.S. Air National Guard. He was predeceased by Nancy.
