Raymond P. Robbins ’58 died on October 31, 2025. Ray was born in Framingham, Massachusetts, and grew up in nearby Hopkinton. He majored in chemistry, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, and was a member of Theta Delta Chi. Ray was part of the Navy ROTC program and served two years as an engineering officer on a Navy minesweeper. After earning a master’s in education at Harvard in 1961, he taught for a year at the American School in Switzerland and then became the school’s head for six years. For the following 15 years Ray was headmaster of University Liggett School in Grosse Point, Michigan. In 1986 he and his wife, Lenita, started and ran Swiss Semester, a semester-long education program in Zermatt, Switzerland, for U.S. high school sophomores. Ray observed the program “reaffirmed to me beyond any doubt that young people can measure up to high academic, physical, and behavioral expectations and become better, more mature young adults. Unquestionably, young people can and will exceed high expectations in all areas.” When Ray retired in Hanover, his son Kris ’85 managed the Swiss Semester program. Lenita survives him, along with Kris and a daughter.
