Nadine L. Pearce ’81 passed away from complications of Parkinson’s disease on February 22. At Dartmouth “Deanie” lived in the River Cluster and Channing Cox, participated in the Big Brother/Big Sister program, and was a member of the Glee Club. She majored in religion and traveled to Spain on a language study abroad. After college Deanie regularly traveled between Block Island, Rhode Island—her favorite place in the world and where she waitressed during the summer—and Spain, where she made lifelong friends. She earned a master’s in human resources from the New School for Social Research in 1993 and held leadership positions in organizational development at Nabisco, Kraft Food, and Novartis, where she led culture change and organization design work. Deanie was devoted to husband Alan, son Trevor, and daughter Grace, who survive her. In addition to summering on Block Island, the family traveled to Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Costa Rica as well as across the United States to visit friends. Deanie was a Sunday school teacher and served as a board member at her church in Upper Montclair, New Jersey. She was quick with a joke, smiled easily, sang beautifully, and loved to entertain. She delighted in celebrating and elevating everyday foods—including blackberry cobblers with berries picked on secret island lanes and BLTs beautifully presented on the plate. Her friends note Deanie’s joie de vivre and impeccable hostess instincts have helped them navigate life’s ups and downs.
