Michael Gerry Moran ’82 passed away at home in Lexington, Massachusetts, on August 4, 2025. Mike was born in Rochester, New York, and graduated from Weston (Massachusetts) High School, where he captained the football, basketball, and baseball teams. At Dartmouth he majored in economics, joined Beta Theta Pi, played football, and was a cycling club member. Mike married Madeline Shaw in 1990 and they raised Sydney, Troy, and Nathan in Lexington. He worked in finance and accounting for corporations in the heavy building materials industry. Outside of work, Mike was an avid cyclist, through the years riding across the United States and throughout the Alps and Pyrenees in France. He rode almost every day with a close-knit group of cycling friends. Other interests included history, Boston sports, Shakespeare classes, walking the family dogs, and traveling with his family. Darren CdeBaca ’82 recalls: “From our freshman year on the football team throughout our brotherhood at Beta, Mike, aka ‘Machine’ was always setting the example for others about working hard and doing the right thing academically and athletically. His friendship mirrored his actions, which were centered around being supportive, encouraging, nonjudgmental, and a leader. Mike was called Machine by his friends due to his relentless and productive athletic and academic efforts: ‘God bless the Machine!’ ” Mike is remembered for his kindness, wit and humor, youthful energy, and devotion to family and friends. He is survived by his wife and children.
