Michael Dan O’Connor ’68 passed away September 11 in Three Rivers, Michigan. He graduated from University High School in Bloomington, Indiana, where he played baseball, basketball and football and was named MVP in baseball and honored as the best all-around athlete. At Dartmouth Mike majored in government, played football and baseball until he injured a shoulder, was active in the DOC and Tri-Kap as rush chairman, and was the beer pong champion for three years. After Dartmouth he entered law school at Indiana University, graduating in 1971. After a year as clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals, Mike was admitted to the State of Michigan Bar. He went on to spend 50 years as a lawyer in multiple firms specializing in real estate law. Michael loved baseball, John Grisham novels, and conch fritters. He recaptured a little of his former glory coaching his daughters’ softball and his son’s Little League teams. In later years he became a marathoner and triathlete and had many running friends. Mike is survived by his second wife, Mary, son John, daughters Erin and Katherine, stepson Zach, stepdaughter Marissa, six grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and siblings Patrick, Dena, Randa, and Tanya. Mike’s laughter, wisdom, steadfast loyalty, sarcasm, and occasionally grumpy nature will be missed by those who knew him.
