Lance M. Roberts ’66 passed away in Charleston, West Virginia, on December 12, 2025, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. Lance attended Carl Sandburg High School in Palos Park, Illinois, where his excellence on the basketball court earned him induction into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2022. At Dartmouth he played basketball and rugby and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Dragon. He went on to Northwestern University Kellogg School of Business and served as a captain in the U.S. Army, deploying to Vietnam and earning a Bronze Star. Upon discharge, Lance worked in group and pension insurance with Lincoln National. In 1980 he founded the largest pension administration office in northern New England. Following its sale in 1996, he was a consultant in the defined benefit and 401(k) markets until retirement in 2022. An avid golfer, Lance was known for his kindness, quick wit, and affable personality. He and his wife of 34 years, Jackie, shared a passion for travel and adventure, and he took great pride in supporting her at every equestrian event in which she competed. Lance cherished summers spent on Lake Michigan surrounded by family and friends. Lance is survived by Jackie; brother Joel; and children Robert, Kerry, Stephanie, Eric, Tom, and Walker and their families, including 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Donations can be made to Lance’s Bleachers for Families project, c/o Sandy Preston, 4866 Big Tyler Road, Cross Lanes, WV 25313.
